Fly, fly away

Fly, fly away …

Calgon, take me away …

Nope, not going there, back to fly, fly away and on to birds. Birds? Birds.

10 But none says, ‘Where is God my Maker,
    who gives songs in the night,
11 who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth
    and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’  Job 35:10 (ESV)

Few of us think about this wisdom of birds. They love and protect their families, they don’t war, have no need for infrastructure, make recyclable and reclaimable homes, travel south when they need to and north at the right time. And they make us fall in love with their beauty and music to the point that we put out feeders (and if they’re lucky, remember to fill them) so they don’t have to dig in the dirt for food.

16 The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
    the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 In them the birds build their nests;
    the stork has her home in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for the wild goats;
    the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.      Psalm 104:16-18 (ESV)

Their music is what drew me to write about them today. I just love waking to hear them sing in the morning and thanks for my feeders, I’m never short of vocalists. I thank God for the gifts of hearing, the ability to feed the birds, the gifts of them coming to my yard, and the sweet, sweet music they sing. My daughter-in-law to be made me laugh recently. We are baseball fans and follow the KC Royals. Some of our birds have a tune that sounds like a regional tune of “Let’s go Royals”. What a gift! Just another smile.

Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.  Romans 12:6-8 (ESV)

Fly, fly away to wherever your bird wisdom tells you that you need to go so you can share your gifts, whatever it may be, with whoever it might be for so you can bless them.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  Matthew 6:26 (ESV)

After a time of rest, it's time to resurrect this blog with a light on prayer and building our own personal prayer garden. A woman of faith, I want to share my personal insights into God and the Gospel in the hopes that these touch another heart, encouraging them to come to Christ.

  1. I loved this old reference to the Calgon bath time (especially since I was a single Mom for years.)
    The other reason I wanted to comment was my name is Robin. I so love the bluebirds on your post. 🐦 🌱 🐦
